Jewelry Glossary

A precious gemstone in the corundum family of stones, most commonly blue but they also come in a range of colors from white to orange to green to pink. A corundum gemstone is red, it is referred to as a ruby, but any other color in inexpensive jewelry are referred to as sapphires. Some sapphires are synthesized, so it takes an expert to determine if a sapphire is natural.
